Microanalysis is used as a way to verify the stoichiometry of a chemical sample. Often it is used to help with structure determination, or to determine solvent or impurity levels. The standard experiment only measures carbon, hydrogen and nitrogen content, since other elements can be more problematic.
Usually, an agreement of experiment and theory to within 0.3% is required to "pass".
