In the UK and US, fuel efficiency is typically quoted in miles per gallon (mpg), but it must be noted that US and UK gallons differ in size. Europe tends to use the reciprocal units litres per 100km (l/100km), and other countries often use km/liter. Very heavy machinery, airliners, etc. occasionally uses reciprocal units such as gallons per mile (gpm), or liters per km.
